Occupation and Liberation

From May 1940, the Netherlands was weighed down by the German occupation. On September 17, 1944, the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment of the American 101st Airborne Division landed in the fields near Eerde. These soldiers took part in Operation "Market Garden" and liberated our village.

Commemorations in Eerde

Every year on September 17th, the Airborne Committee Eerde organizes a commemoration at the Geronimo monument at Zandvliet in Eerde.
Also the National Remembrance Day on May 4th is held at the monument.
Children of the primary school, among others, participate in the commemorations.
